Every Halloween, the isolated village of Hollowbrook gathers for the ancient Harvest Feast, a lantern-lit tradition said to protect the fields, orchards, and families through the coming winter. At the heart of the celebration is the ceremonial Pumpkin King or Pumpkin Queen, chosen to lead the procession through the pumpkin maze and bless the midnight feast beneath the old harvest tree.
This year, the honour belongs to Edith or Edmund, the keeper of the communal granary. But behind the music, pumpkins, cider, and candlelight, Hollowbrook is hiding a dangerous secret. Grain has gone missing. Village records have been altered. Protected farmland has been quietly negotiated away. And the crowned keeper has discovered proof.
During the feast, Edith or Edmund announces that the missing ledger pages have been found. Before midnight, the guilty names will be revealed.
The announcement chills the room.
Some villagers fear ruin. Others fear prison, disgrace, or the loss of everything they have worked to protect. When the lantern procession enters the pumpkin maze, the crowned figure walks ahead as tradition demands—but never returns.
