Christmas from Sunset Apartments
A Christmas Eve 2001
Plot:
Christmas Eve, 2001. The colourful residents of Sunset Apartments have gathered in the lobby for their annual shared Christmas dinner. Paper chains hang from the walls, takeaway trays crowd the tables, the karaoke machine is ready, and every neighbour arrives carrying a secret.
The festive mood quickly collapses when Arthur, the building owner, announces that Sunset Apartments has been sold. The new owners intend to inspect every tenancy, raise rents and investigate unpaid accounts, unofficial businesses, copied keys and unregistered occupants. Several residents may soon lose their homes.
Arthur refuses to discuss these problems in front of everyone and retreats to the building office for a series of private meetings. Before dessert is served, he is found dead behind his desk.
A page has vanished from the rent ledger. A copied office key lies beneath the radiator. An old answering-machine cassette contains warnings recorded during the previous Christmas, and several ordinary objects from the celebration may not be as harmless as they appear.
Every resident had something to fear from the sale—but only one had the motive, means and opportunity to commit murder.
Players must mingle freely, question their neighbours, exchange clues, protect secrets, challenge alibis and follow the evidence through three investigative acts. With four possible killer versions selected secretly by the host, even the chosen killer will not discover the truth until the final sealed reveal.
Capital of Mystery
How it plays:
Players take on the roles of Sunset Apartments residents, mingle freely, question one another, trade clues, protect secrets and compare alibis across three investigative acts. New evidence is revealed throughout the game before everyone submits a final accusation naming the killer, method and motive. The host secretly selects one of four possible solutions, and even the chosen killer remains unaware until the final reveal.
Perfect for:
Christmas Eve dinners, festive house parties, family gatherings, office celebrations and holiday get-togethers for 4–30 adults and teens. Ideal for groups who enjoy social deduction, roleplay, mystery-solving and interactive party games.

Yes. It is recommended for ages 13+. The story includes murder, secrets and accusations, but the tone is family-friendly, non-graphic and suitable for mixed-age Christmas gatherings.
No. This is a freeform interactive mystery. Players mingle, question one another, exchange clues, protect secrets, compare alibis and form their own theories. The folios include prompts and goals rather than long scripts.
No. The host secretly selects one of four possible killer versions before play. The chosen killer receives a version-neutral character folio and only discovers the truth after the final ballots are collected.
Yes. The game includes four possible killer solutions, each with its own final evidence and confession page. A future game can use a different version for a new solution.
Yes, although the host will know which solution was selected. A participating host should focus on keeping the game moving and avoid using host-only information when discussing theories or completing a ballot.
Not at all. Players may perform dramatically or play more casually. Each character folio provides a personality, secret, objective, clues and conversation prompts to make participation easy.
Optional characters can be removed in reverse casting order without affecting the core mystery. The four Tier A characters must always remain in the game.
The game has a medium difficulty level. The clues are designed to be fair and solvable by matching motive, means and opportunity, with a limited number of controlled red herrings.
Yes. Costumes and decorations add atmosphere but are not required. The full mystery can be played using only the printed host materials, character folios, evidence cards and ballots.

Reviews from Real Detectives
"The Greed & Gouda kit turned our ordinary Saturday dinner into a full-blown Wall Street whodunit. The host script was fool-proof — even for first-timers. Our guests are already begging for the next game night!"
"I needed a fresh idea for our remote team social. The mystery kept 24 coworkers laughing and collaborating for two solid hours. HR is making this a standing tradition."
"We ran the mystery for my daughter's birthday on Zoom. The story was clean, the clues were challenging, and setup took less than an hour. Parents messaged me asking where to buy their own kit."
"I've purchased mystery kits from three other sites. None matched the polish of Capital of Mystery. Instant downloads, gorgeous PDFs, and clear Host vs. Player sections — zero spoilers. Five stars."
"We hosted the 1920s Speakeasy game for a birthday dinner and everyone stayed in character longer than expected. The evidence cards made the night feel organized but still gave everyone room to improvise."
"The game worked perfectly for our group of 18. I loved that the instructions were clear, the roles felt balanced, and even quieter guests had useful secrets and clues to share."
"I was nervous about hosting for the first time, but the host guide made it easy. We printed everything the same afternoon and played that night. The final reveal got a huge reaction."
